Northern Architectural Helps Castle Village Keep Charm & Get Modern Benefits

Well-known as “an oasis from the bustle of New York City”, yet just steps from the George Washington Bridge, Castle Village is a magnificent 5-building enclave, amidst lush gardens, that sits atop Manhattan’s highest point.
And now, with new noise-reducing windows from Northern Architectural Systems being installed, residents will be even more comfortable while still enjoying magnificent sunsets and panoramic views of the Hudson River valley. Castle Village’s Board, which includes several architects, was charged with maintaining the quality, attention to detail, graciousness, elegance, and spaciousness that have been Castle Village hallmarks going back to its original design by George F. Pelham, Jr. and its construction on the site of Paterno’s Castle. At the time, Castle Village received an Award for Excellence from the American Institute of Architects.
Northern’s design team worked hand-in-hand with Ivan Brice Architecture to create almost 8,000 custom windows that would bring modern energy efficiency, yet hold true to the original architectural concept in fine detail.
“Northern has provided neatly fitted, beveled muntin bars to create simulated divided lite windows in a muted white color that are a faithful match-up to the original windows and Georgian style of the buildings” according to Ivan Brice, principal.
Brice’s office surveyed all apartment units in advance and provides full-time inspection services throughout the installation phase of the work.
